Dry blind hunting on flooded fields
A
special note and Thank You from
the Webmaster.
During the
one Thanksgiving Holiday I had the pleasure of staying at Black River Mallard Resort and enjoying the lodge,
great duck hunting and wonderful meals. I must say that the staff was
extremely gracious and accommodating to all the hunters, some with young teen-age
sons.
I awakened each morning at a very early hour
to the wonderful aroma of 'Bama's breakfast cooking before the morning hunt.
All the appetites were hearty and well satisfied. After the morning hunt a
great hot lunch was always ready and waiting. The same was true every evening,
too.
This was my first time hunting flooding
timber. It was a superb experience. Standing in the water in your waders under
natural concealment and watching the ducks responding to the calls was simply beautiful.
On the flooded rice field in the pit blind
(like the one in the photograph above) the next day the conditions were perfect.
Nine hunters experienced the best shooting any of them could remember.
Our guide called in one flight of eight ducks that soon cupped up over the decoys. No
ducks flew away. The Black Lab performed like a grand champion retrieving all eight
ducks. Thirty-three ducks of several species were taken that morning. Even a
couple of geese were bagged.

This picture should say it all.
The bottom line is simply if you like to
hunt ducks, enjoy the comradery of other hunters, enjoy good food and southern
hospitality, Black River Mallard Resort is the place for you.
